Proxy: Caching Proxy Server

In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) which services the requests of its clients by forwarding requests to other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server provides the resource by connecting to the specified server and requesting the service on behalf of the client. A proxy server may optionally alter the client's request or the server's response, and sometimes it may serve the request without contacting the specified server. In this case, it would 'cache' the first request to the remote server, so it could save the information for later, and make everything as fast as possible. A proxy server that passes all requests and replies unmodified is usually called a gateway or sometimes tunneling proxy. A proxy server can be placed in the user's local computer or at specific key points between the user and the destination servers or the Internet.

NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR

Run Netscape Navigator
Open Option menu
Choose Network Preferences
Choose Proxies tab (see picture)
Activate Manual Proxy Configuration/B> option
Click View button
Fill HTTP Proxy with proxy.wasantara.net.id and port : 8080 (see picture)
ClickOK to close the dialog box.

NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR

Run Netscape Communicator
Open Edit menu
Choose Preferences
Doble click Advanced
Activate Manual Proxy Configuration
Fill HTTP Proxy with proxy.wasantara.net.id
and Port with 8080 Click OK to close the dialog box.

INTERNET EXPLORER 2.0 (Windows 3.1)

Run Internet Explorer
Open View menu
Choose Option
Choose Proxy tab (see picture)
Fill HTTP with proxy.wasantara.net.id , and port : 8080
Click OK

INTERNET EXPLORER 2.0 (Windows 95)

Open Control Panel
Double click Internet Icon
Activate Use Proxy Server option
Fill Proxy Server field with proxy.wasantara.net.id:8080
Click OK

INTERNET EXPLORER 2.0 (Macintosh)

Run Internet Explorer
Open Edit menu
Choos Option
Choose Proxy tab (see picture)
Fill HTTP Proxy field with proxy.wasantara.net.id ,port:8080
Click OK

INTERNET EXPLORER 3.0 (Windows 95)

Run Internet Explorer
Open View menu
Choose Option
Choose Connection tab
Activate Connect through a proxy server option (see picture)
Click Settings... button
Fill HTTP field with proxy.wasantara.net.id and port:8080 (see picture)
Click OK

INTERNET EXPLORER 5.x/6.x (Windows 9x)

Run Internet Explorer
Open Toolsmenu
Choose Internet Options
Choose Connections menu
Click Lan Setting
Activate Use a Proxy Server
Fill Address field with proxy.wasantara.net.id and port field with 8080
Click OK

OPERA

Run Opera
Open File menu
Choose Preference
Choose Network menu
Click button Proxy Servers
Click HTTP, field with proxy.wasantara.net.id and port field with 8080
Click Ok.
